I finally had a little time to complete the log for this year. I will fill in some picturtes later. 2007 - 2008 Hunting Season
October 1st Kevin hunted the Killing Tree on the E-Plot. He saw 2 fawns, 3 does, 1 tall spike yearling, and 1 6 pt. yearling with double white patch. Did not take shot although opportunity was there. 2 Fawns; 3 Does; 2 Bucks
October 2nd I hunted Trader Park from 3:30 to 4:20pm Set out drag line of Hyper-P for about 200 ft. Hung drag line on north side of TP openning. About 4:10 pm a doe following drag line path came up road. At the same time I saw her my SIL arrived at the camp and started unloading his ATV making a lot of noise. TP is about 100 yards behind the camp. The doe became nervous and entered the cutover to the east. At 4:19 pm (TC picture) the doe came out the cutover onto the plot. (Baited not Planted) but was still nervous. She walked up to the drag rag and then turned around and went towards the feed. She gave me a beautiful broadside shot at 18 yards and I blew it. When I shot she was standing next to the scent pad of Hyper-P. 1 Doe
I hunted 5:30 til dark at 3 Trees. Stand is on north side of plot planted in BF Oats, T-Max Attract, IW Clover. Set out drag line of Hyper-P across the entire legnth of the West and T-Plots down the middle. Stepped on drag rag to set out additional tracks of scent. I stopped at the red oak in the center of the T-Plot and hung the drag rag there. Then I continued on and set out corn and rice bran about 20 yards from the stand. I could see many deer on the west plot but only 3 came onto the T-plot. These were a doe (milk bag full) and 2 - 8 point (I thought they were 7 pts at the time) 2.5 year olds. They grazed their way down the center of the plot (Drag line path) and the bucks stopped at the red oak (drag rag hung there) and grazed. They remained very calm but the doe was very aggitated at the pile of rice bran. She stomped, broke and ran a few steps came back sneaking up on the pile but was very disturbed about that pile of rice bran. The bucks looked at her trying to figure out what was going on. They all walked away and exited in the cutover. 2 Fawns; 8 Does; 2 Bucks
Kevin hunted the Killing Tree and did not use scent. Kevin shot and lost a large doe because she busted him in the tree. 2 Fawns; 4 Does

October 3rd I hunted 4 pm til dark at the TRAP. Set out drag line of Hyper-P across center of plot. Of the 5 does and 2 fawns I saw on the plots none followed the scent line. Two does with 2 fawns presented a shot for a short period but neither doe could be ID's as the mother. They hung around the tree that the drag line was hung on for a while. 2 Fawns; 5 Does Saw 2 deer on the E-Plot on the way to hunt.
Kevin hunted the Killing Tree and used no scent. He had opportunities to shoot but is waiting for a buck. 2 Fawns; 10 Does; 1 tall Spike (same) Saw 2 Deer on W-Plot when coming to pick me up.
October 4th I hunted the TRAP on the W-Plot from about 4 til dark. Set out drag line of Hyper-P across center of plot. Of the deer seen 2 does followed the scent line after feeding at the feeder at the far end of the West plot. I left the drag line about 6 ft. in a small tree 20 yards from the stand. These 2 does fed there for 1 hour and I finally had to throw 2 water bottles at them before they moved off somewhat. It was 7:45 pm and I had nothing left to throw at them. I lowered my bow and let it brush up against the lower branches of the tree and they moved to the far end of the plot again. They showed no concern while in the area of the scent rag and would have been easy targets if I wouldn't have seen them stash a fawn prior to coming within range. I let them walk because I didn't know which was the mother. 5 Fawns; 5 Does

October 8th Cro hunted Trader Park for about 1 hour and I picked him up when it started to rain. IT stopped raining when we started BBQing. No deer seen.
October 9th Cro hunted Trader Park from 6 till 7:20 am. He used a scent rag with Hyper-P on it and placed it in the middle of the plot. 2 Does and 2 fawns came from behind him and went right to the plot to start eating. Cro picked out the doe that did not have fawns with her and shot her. She was standing next to the scent pad when he shot her. He said the deer were calm. 2 Fawns; 2 Does
I hunted the TRAP from 6 til 9 am and saw nothing. I used no scent.
Cro hunted Kolton's Korner which is the south end of the E-Plot from 4:30 til dark. I don't remember if he used scent but he only saw 1 doe at a distance. 1 Doe
I hunted the Killing tree from 4:30 til dark. I used a Hyper P scent line on the plot. A tall spike yearling and the double white patch 6 pt. yearling came out with a doe. they fed at 20 to 30 yards but did not go near the scent pad. They were calm and I took quite a few photos of them. 1 Doe; 1 Spike; 1 6 pt

Kevin hunted the Killing Tree. No scent. The deer showed up around 7 pm on the E-Plot. With a couple of does and fawns already on the plot, 4 bucks came out from the NE side. These were followed by the big boy. The big one chased the does off the plot and was eventually heading towards the Killing Tree but it was dark. I wound up chasing them off the plot when I came to pick up Kevin. 2 Fawns; 2 Does; 1 4pt; 1 6 pt; 2 8 pts; and 1 13 point.

October 19th I hunted Rock Ridge 4:30 til dark using a scent pad making a mock scrape near stand with Hyper Rage. I saw nothing. No deer sighted Kevin hunted the Killing Tree 4:30 til dark using no scent. He had 2 does and 1 fawn feeding under his tree. they came out at dark. 1 Fawn; 2 Does
October 20th I hunted Rock Ridge 6 to 9am using no scent. I figured the Rage was still good from last night. No deer sighted Kevin hunted the Killing tree 6 to 8:30am using no scent. No deer sighted
We put up a new stand on the north side of the East Plot becasue that is where several of the deer fed. Then we filled the feeder in the Little Woods. When we set of the feeder to test the new batteries 2 fawns came out. 2 Fawns
I hunted 4 Trees stand from 5 til dark using no scent. At dark I had 1 doe and 2 fawns pass through. Had a 12 yard shot but too dark to shoot ethically. 2 Fawns; 1 Doe Kevin hunted 3 Trees from 5 til dark using no scent. He had 1 doe at 25 yards a 6 pm. Let walk. 1 Doe
October 21st I hunted the 3 Trees stand 4:30 til dark this evening. It was uneventful until just before dark. I saw 2 deer coming onto the plot from the Ridge Runner Trail. The first looked pretty good size and when it turned I could see antlers. I didn't pay much attention to the second. It came about 30 yards then the second one joined it. I had a better look at it then. It was big....no BIG! I could see heavy antlers with a decent spread. the G2's and 3's looked tall also, about 8". Good mass and he was pushing 200 lbs.
The smaller was a 7 or 8 point with a good spread. Looked like something for the wall. But the big one may have been P&Y. Had a shot at the smaller but passed because the big one was moving closer. Well finally he was 20 yards, broadside and head down feeding. I drew and put the pin on him. I couldn't pick my spot anymore. Light had faded to where it wasn't ethical to shoot. Believe me I thought about it. HARD!!! I was wanting to shoot really bad. I put the bow back on the hanger and watched the show for another 20 minutes.
Both bucks and another deer fed on the plot but the other kept it's distance. The big buck ran it off once and it came right back. Then they all fed together. Then both bucks ran to the west side of the plot fast and the big one stopped right on the edge and bowed up. Then he gave a snort wheeze....man I thought that was B*** Sh**. They do make that sound. He paced back and forth at the edge of the cutover and then plowed right into it full force going after something. The other buck was right in the same area but I lost track of him and the third deer entered near my stand and went north.
About 1.5 minutes after the deer left while I was gathering my stuff my SIL called on the cell phone and it rang on the plot. Boy I'm glad the deer were gone by that time. By a lot of people's standards it would have been a bummer of a hunt but it was great. How many times have you let a P&Y walk.
My Cuddeback TC took 3 pictures while they were on the plot but none of the bucks were close. I believe that the big one was in the background for one of the pictures. I can't wait to pull them tommorrow to see exacty what he looks like. It was pretty dark and my eye sight is not the best. BUT I CAN TELL BIG!!!!
Man it was a great day! 2 Does; 1 7 point; 1 11 point While pulling TC pictures there were 2 Fawns on the E-Plot While going out to hunt in the evening there were 2 fawns on the E-Plot

I updated the journal and when I pulled the pictures this morning I found out what was actually there. I will post pictures later.
The smaller buck was a 7 point that has been visiting the plot frequently. He is nice and I would shoot him in a minute. The larger was a main frame 9 point with two good stickers. I believe it is the deer I called Clifford last year. This year he is mid 130's. I also got a picture of another buck from last year. "Basinhunter" was a main frame 8 with 2 stickers last year. This year he is a mainframe 9 point (MUCH BIGGER) with the same 2 stickers but larger. He has around 6 " bases. This may be the deer that Clifford was agrivated at. But in looking at the two "Basin hunter is bigger body and antler size.
I really like when you can recognize last year's deer. There are a couple more I would love to see and that is "Bayouboy" He was a 7 x 5 last year but not all would score. And then there is "Boogieman" He should be HUGE!

Here's the pictures: First is the 7 point that gave me the shot early enough to shoot. The next 2 pictures are of the deer I call Clifford. The first picture is not from last night but the second one is. They give you a side and front view of the deer. Here is a picture of "Basinhunter" who showed up for the first time this year last night.

October 23rd 4pm til dark
I hunted the 3 Trees stand on the T-Plot. I sprayed Hyper Estrous X on the NW corner of the plot. About 5 a doe walked out on the West Plot and went south away from me. A little while late a doe with 1 fawn came out on the T-Plot to the west of me 40 yards. She was very nervous. I don't know if it was the wind or the Estrous smell but she was very jumpy. She crossed the plot looking back in my direction and exited on the Ridge Runner Trail.
On my way hunting I set out some feed at Kolton's Korner Trailcam and there were 2 fawns on the E-Plot. When I walked up to the TC another very small fawn ran from the corner. I whistled and she stopped about 25 feet from me. I went about my business baiting up and the fawn just eased away to the south side of the plot. She stayed there until I got on my 4 wheeler and started it up.
I did hunt in the wrong place yesterday. I wanted to give Rock Ridge a rest, that's where the big boy is every night. Well, at 6:08 a big 8 and another good 8 came out. A little later two 6's came out. At 6:48pm still barely enough light to shoot in the bottom the big boy was there. I don't guess you can be everywhere at the same time. That's twice he came out in shooting light so far.
He showed up at Kolton's Korner after 8pm with a new friend. Another good 9 pointer that I haven't seen before. This one is a little smaler than the other two. est score 132 P&Y.

November 1, 2007 Hunted 4 Trees stand. Laid out scent line of Hyper-P from South Fork to stand and from stand to feed then hung scent pad in tree. Saw 2 fawns on T-Plot early and then 2 does and one fawn on T-Plot later. Bill P. messed up hunt with tractor and 4 wheeler. November 11, 2007 Doug hunted 3 Trees 4pm til dark using Hyper-P scent pad. Had 2 fawns feeding in front of him for about 1 hour. 2 Fawns
I hunted the Killing Tree from 4pm til dark using Hyper-P scent pad. Stepped on it to lay scent in area I wanted the deer to stay. On the way into the plot jumped a deer on the right in the cutover. Shortly after setting up in the stand the yearly concert in the trees started. This is a Swamp Pop Band that plays around this time every year at a party one of my neighbors throws. This is the first year I have ever seen a deer when the music was playing. About 4:30pm a fawn came out BTP and went toward the creek. About 5pm 2 does and 2 fawns came out of Buck Point but were very nervous because of the music. They were upwind of the scent pad so it was not of any use. They fed shortly on the west side of the plot and exited after about 10 minutes. No spots on these fawns. About 5:30 a large fawn/yearling (light colored but no spots) came out BTP. It fed on the eastern side for a while then worked it’s way to the corn in front of the stand. Great broadside shot at 15 yards but to small and couldn’t be sure of no spots. I let it walk. While this deer was feeding there were 2 deer feeding on the plot near the box stand. One of these was a fawn and the other was either a small doe or the short spike I have been getting pictures of at Kolton’s Korner. I lost track of these but a short time later there were 3 deer feeding on my right that worked there way to the corn. Two fawns and a large deer. These were probably the same deer as near the box stand. They worked there way to the corn and all presented shots along with the first fawn to arrive. It was now to dark to make sure that the larger one was not that short spike (1”) so I let them all walk. I wound up throwing my water bottle near two of them to scare them off. They ran but the other 2 just stood there like dummies. They left when I let my bow down. Yes, I’m still hunting with the bow. It’s to much fun for me to put it down. 2 Does, 3 Deer, 6 Fawns

November 16, 2007 I hunted the Killing Tree 3pm til dark using Hyper-P to lay trail and left scent pad upwind of area to be hunted. Early there was a single fawn behind me. When I looked back it was gone. About 4:30 2 fawns entered from the west side of the plot and fen on corn and ricebran in front of me until about 5pm when a doe and 2 fawns entered from the north. The original 2 fawns ran west then eventually joined the doe with her fawns and fed on the west side of the plot. The doe was very wary of the Killing Tree. Whe left near Buck Point and took 1 fawn with her. Right after she left an 8 point (2.5 yr) entered from Buck Point. It fed on the western side until working it’s way to the rice bran pile. I drew once and was not satisfied with the shot. I let down, rested and drew again and shot. Half my arrow was left at the spot and I never found the other half. Tracked the deer later with Paul’s help for about 150 yards then we lost blood. Circled around for a while but lost trail. 1 Doe, 5 fawns, 1 8 point
