Hunt of January 24 & 25, 2009
This is a post form Hog Wild....Cro's web site:
This weekend I brought Austin up to Professor T's camp for a weekend of bow hunting. Austin was the bow hunter and I was the lookout man. Well of course every time I go to PT'S place it rains and I didn't let him down. We arrived Friday night and a front was coming through and the temps dropped 20 degrees. We hunted the ground blind Saturday morning and afternoon with out seeing anything. We checked trail cameras and everything seemed to be moving at night. So, after Austin coughed all night I decided the morning hunt was out of the question with the temps still in the high 30's. We had already made plans with PT to go to church after the morning hunt so we went to church and returned to camp at lunch time. PT decided that he was going to stay behind and clean up the camp so me and Austin we heading out to the blind. Now the temps are up to the mid 40's so we sat on stand for 2 hours. While there we had a neighbor sighting in his muzzle loader about 10 shots and cutting down trees with a chainsaw. So, I call PT and said that we were going to get out and move to another food plot that he had see a few does the afternoon before. We set up about 28 yards in a brier patch behind a feeder. We didn't see anything til about 30 minutes before dark when 2 does came out at about 100 yards away. Well Austin started getting pumped up watching them get closer and closer. His breathing got faster and he was starting to get that shake if you know what I mean. Well we ran out of daylight and the last time I ranged the does they were still over 60 yards away. We didn't get one but he had one heck of a time at camp with Mr. Don and he got a great rush from those does. We look forward to next season already. We will go make the hunt early in the season before rifle opens so we can get on them. Here are a few pictures of Austin and our set up. Thanks PT for a great weekend.
