Well after opening day's double turkey shoot. Paul Daly JR said he wanted in on some of the action. The second weekend The twins and I headed up Friday night. We arrived around 9.30 pm and went to pull trail pics. The only turkeys were on the back plot. They came to the plot at 1.45 pm that same day we got there. They hung around to about 2.45pm, it was 5 jakes and one big tom. He had nice long spurs and was hung like a horse[10" beard].Sinse we did not get there on time to roost one. We decided to just go and listen first and play it by ear. Good day to be in the turkey woods. The toms were gobbling early but they were far away maybe 250yds. I made the call to go to the front plot like opening day. We set up the decoys and got in our blind all three of us. We made some calls got a lil response but not what we wanted. We stayed there til 9.45am. Then i made the call to head to the back i thought maybe the jakes and the big tom might be around. After putting out our set we dug in the back blind. Then started calling about every 15 minutes after about 1hr I thought the twins were getting aintz. Just about throw in the towel went we heard a turkey call to our right i made a some soft calls no response. Another 15 minutes went by then Paul who was sitting to my right said he seen a turkey. Asked were but he said nothing i knew then they had to be close. Just then from our right i saw the 5 jakes coming in fast. I told Paul it was the 5 jakes look for the gobbler He said he did not see him. By now the jakes wre in front of us at a mere 10yrds and they busted us fast. I asked again Paul look to the right do you see the gobbler he replyed " NO" so I told him to shoot one of the jakes. By the time he got his Grandfathers 20gauge up. The last jake had made it in woods I thought the show was over but the gun roared and I seen the last jake to make it to the woods go down. I told Paul to run and get him. While Paul was running two turkeys flew up and landed in the trees in front of Paul I thought one was Pauls I told him to shoot him but Paul said he was standing on his head. Two weeks in a row I watch as My twins harvested there first turkey. I think I planted some good seeds. The hunting that runs in the TOUPS vains is here to stay. PS I had no gun in my hand for that hunt but still loved every minute of it.
