I never really liked hunting a plot the day after a kill was made there. Between the blood and the scent of retrieving deer the area is contaminated pretty well. In this case my brother was hunting the W-Plot and I was left with the E-Plot. Oh! The sacrifices people have to make. Hehehehe!
As I predicted there was not a whole lot of activity. So as the color of the plot changed from green and brown to black and white I started gathering my stuff quietly. I don't remember if I heard something or caught movement but the was a black blob coming out the Creek Road. It was big bodied and I saw a rack right away. Ususally I instantly recognize which deer I am going to shoot but with limited light and short times I had no idea who it was. As the buck approached the trailcam feeding station he stretched out his head had far from his body as he could smelling the blood from the previous kill. There was a pool where the 5 point fell and this buck was not pleased with the arrangements.
The buck was about to bolt. I had my .243 with me as I hunt the last 5 minutes of the day with the rifle because of my eyesight in low light conditions. TOO LATE! It was just a reaction but a great shot. He ran about 30 yards and fell right on the Creek Road. This was about 25 yards from the giant pool of blood from the 5 point. The area looks like there was a gladiator fight from the two deer. I need some rain. Hehehehehe!
This was a new buck to the area and I have no trailcam pictures of him. I have not pulled the jaw bones from either deer but I believe this to be a lower end 3.5 year old. The mass was there but tine length left a lot to be desired. I am very pleased with the buck because of how long it took me to kill a decent buck this year. The experience was great.
