The Lone Oak Tree on the West Plot has been one of my favorite stands since year one. In 2006 a crack developed on the south half of the tree and the stand could not be hunted on windy days. May 2007 the south half af the tree fell. But the good news is that there is enough tree left to hunt. I just have to use a different setup in the tree.

The dozer work going on now is openning up new trees to archery hunt from. There are 4 trees on the southeast corner of of the west plot. All have there advantages and I may even set up in two of the 4 trees. Above is tree # 1 which is the southern most of the four. It has cover from bottom to top but is a little open at the height of the stand. It allows for shots at the very southern portion of the plot but can't shoot entering the road. Tree # 2 is a little better positioned for shots but the cover is not as good. Also there is a big limb blocking shooting straight into the plot. Both tree 3 & 4 have good cover and offer more reach towards the north on the plot. # 4 would be about 40 yards from the south. All trees are about 30 yards from the west edge of the plot.

The above picture is taken from the end of the X-Over Rd. where it comes into the West Plot. Just past where that small persimon tree is out in the open on the right side (east) there is a water oak. This is where I will place my first stand on this plot. This tree is 30 yards (steps) from the south end of the plot. It is about 25 yards across the plot at this point. Considering I can shoot shoot 30 yds to the North or South and 25 yards across almost any place on the south end of the plot the deer will be in archery range. The picture above is taken from across the plot from the new stand location. The tree on the left is where I plan to put the stand. I placed a feeder right about this location but have not yet set up a camera there. It will take the deer a month or two to get used to the new feeder location. This should bring in the does by the time the season opens..
